6 Steps For Choosing The Perfect Enganement Ring

By: Kathy

The process of getting married used to be fairly straightforward. As with many things, they got more complicated over time.
Many marriages were arranged in many cultures around the world and some still actively practice it today. An engagement
ring was never a necessary part of getting married since the responsibility of betrothal rested with the parents of the future
bride and groom. How about you? Are you having trouble choosing the right engagement ring for your girl? No problem –
follow these five steps to engagement ring success!

1. Know your future fiancee. Think about who she is! Is she a simple T-shirt and jeans kind of girl or is she the typical girly
girl? Some girls like simple, classic things. A ring with a solitaire diamond may be the ring for her. Other girls like detail. In
this case, a ring with baguettes or band detail may be the best choice! She may even like a diamond set in an antique
setting.
2. Open your eyes. Check out the jewelry that she wears now or the pieces she has bought for herself lately. This will give
you a good idea as to the style of ring that she leans towards. You will also learn her ring size this way!
3. Ask someone you trust. Tell them that you need their help finding out what type of ring you should buy. Also, tell them
to do so without letting her know what is about to happen! They may already know what she wants.
4. Have a general idea of her perfect engagement ring, it’s time to go shopping. Go to a variety of jewelers and write down
where you found the engagement ring you think would fit her perfectly. The important thing is to have a variety of options,
and going to different jewelers gives you that opportunity.
5. If you think you have found the perfect engagement ring, ask a jeweler to hold it for you. You can bring one of your
bride-to-be’s friends to see the ring and make sure it will fit her tastes, or you could opt for a family member to come check
it out. If you’re sure she’ll love it no matter what, (which she will, since it’s from you), then go ahead and buy it.
6. Don’t ruin the surprise. If you are planning a complete surprise (i.e. she has no idea that there is an impending
engagement) try not to drop too many hints! Let's be honest here.

It is important that you take your time. Make sure you are absolutely confident that you have figured it out before you buy
the ring. What could be better than popping the question with a ring that you know she will love?
